Interesting facts
- Milk bottles are a familiar form of reuse. On average, a milk bottle is reused 20 times.
- Recycling two glass bottles saves enough energy to boil water for five cups of tea.
- In the UK today, we only recycle about 3% of our plastic - but recycling just one plastic bottle would save enough energy to light a 100 watt bulb for up to 6 hours.
- Every year an estimated 17.5 billion plastic shopping bags are given out in supermarkets across the UK. A plastic bag can take 500 years to decay in landfill.
What can I do?
- You can reduce the amount of junk mail that you receive by using a 'no junk mail' sticker. Ask at your local library or call 0207 5490 347. You can also sign up with the Mail Preference Service. Register at www.mpsonline.org.uk. Or phone 0845 7034 599.
